CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced this week that six University of Cincinnati women's golfers have been named All-American Scholars for the 2018-19 academic year.
Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead), Angela Lopez (Bogotá, Colombia), Vanessa Manrique (Bogotá, Colombia), Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia), and Lily Rinker (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) each garnered All-American Scholar distinction. Hitt has collected the honor throughout her four-year Bearcats career, while Burritt earned her second accolade. UC has had multiple honorees each of the past eight years.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) is 3.50. An impressive total of 1,097 women's collegiate golfers were recognized this year with this prestigious honor.
"These honors show the commitment of our team to being the class of the league, both on the course and in the classroom," said UC head coach Janet Carl. "The ladies are hard workers and I am proud of their efforts, in all facets."
Burritt, a mathematics major with minors in physics and economics, has amassed a 3.734 cumulative GPA. On the course this past season, she tallied a team-best 76.2 scoring average during 33 rounds of play, including a career-low round of 70 at the NKU Fall Classic. She was also UC's top finisher in three tournaments, including runner-up placement at the Morehead State Greenbrier Invitational.
A finance major and economics minor, Hitt has earned a 3.856 cumulative GPA. In competition in 2018-19, she carded a 75.6 scoring average during 29 rounds, including a career-best round of 68 and a second-place finish during the opening day of the NKU Fall Classic. She posted 12 rounds of 75 or better throughout the season and finished in the top 20 four times. Hitt graduated from UC in May 2019.
Lopez, majoring in information systems, has accumulated a 3.573 cumulative GPA. She recorded a 76.9 scoring average in 33 rounds this past year and notched a season low three-round score of 218 at the NKU Fall Classic. In addition, the Colombia native had a career-best finish of fourth place at NKU and carded 11 rounds of 75 or better throughout the season.
Majoring in chemical engineering, Manrique has netted a 3.551 cumulative GPA. In 21 rounds of play in 2018-19, she averaged a score of 76.4, including a career-best round of 68 during the second round of the NKU Fall Classic. Manrique posted seven rounds of 75 or better and finished in the top 20 three times.
Murcia boasts a team-best 3.961 cumulative GPA, while double majoring in accounting and finance. On the course, she carded a 78.2 stroke average in 27 rounds this past season. Murcia shot a career low round of 70 in the first round of the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship, en route to a team-best tie for 15th finish.
An interdisciplinary studies major with a focus in digital media collaborative, freshman Rinker has achieved a 3.733 cumulative GPA. She averaged a score of 81.4 over 18 rounds in her rookie season, including a low round of 75 at the South Alabama/UAB Bama Beach Bash. Rinker's best finish was a 15th placement at the Morehead State Greenbrier Invitational.
As a team, UC women's golf posted a 3.623 cumulative GPA in spring semester 2018-19 with two student-athletes earning perfect 4.0 GPA's – Hitt and Murcia.

The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.
