CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati offensive tackle James Hudson (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic/Michigan) was added to the roster for the 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl.
Hudson, a draft-eligible junior, announced Monday he was forgoing his final two years of eligibility to enter the 2021 NFL Draft. The NCAA issued a fall 2020 blanket waiver giving all FBS players an additional year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 Reese's Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game and practices throughout the week will be televised by NFL Network.
Hudson is the 40th Bearcats player all-time and third UC player this year to earn a spot on the Senior Bowl roster, joining P James Smith(Wangaratta, Australia) and S James Wiggins (Miami, Florida/South Dade).
A First-Team All-American Athletic Conference selection at tackle, Hudson helped bookend an offensive line which was tabbed as a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award. The Bearcats averaged an AAC-best 5.6 yards per carry this season and ran for 212.4 yards per game on the ground. UC allowed an AAC low nine sacks during the regular season.
Hudson played in 11 games at UC after transferring from Michigan and sitting out the 2019 regular season after the NCAA denied his hardship waiver. He made his UC debut at the Birmingham Bowl, helping the Bearcats grind out a season-best 343 rushing yards in a dominant win. He played in three games at Michigan in 2018 after redshirting in 2017.
UC won the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championship, its first outright league crown since 2009. Cincinnati finished the season at 9-1, ranking in the Top-10 of all three major polls and playing in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, its first New Year's Six game since the 2009 campaign.
ABOUT THE SENIOR BOWL
The Reese's Senior Bowl is the nation's most prestigious college all-star game, as it annually serves as the first step of the NFL draft process, which explains our hashtag, #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE. The Reese's Senior Bowl has had 93 total players and 40 selected in the first three rounds each of the past two years, including 10 first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. The 93 figure represents nearly 40% of the total draft these past two years. One thing that differentiates the Reese's Senior Bowl from other all-star games is the participation of two full NFL coaching staffs. Last year, the two teams were coached by the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals and there were over 900 credentialed NFL personnel in Mobile, Ala for game week.
