CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati track and field program is set to travel to compete in the 53rd Tennessee Relays, in Knoxville Tennessee Thursday – Saturday, April 8-10. Hosted by the University of Tennessee, the events will kick off on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with women's Heptathlon and conclude with the women's 10000m run at 9:00 p.m.
Friday's events start with the men's decathlon at 11 a.m. with the running events slated to being at 2:45 p.m. The events will go well into the night with the second day of competition concluding at 8:05 p.m. with the women's 5000m Run.
Saturday's running events will start following the University of Tennessee's senior recognition at 1:00 p.m. with the women's 4x1500m. The Field events will start with the women's discus throw at 11:00 a.m., wrapping up with men's triple jump at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The track and field program are coming off their spectacular outdoor season openers in which the program competed at two separate meets including its home meet, the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational and the Sound Running College Invite in Riverside, California.
At the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, the program totaled 22 event wins over two days in which the men's team finished runner up, while the women's team claimed the first place crown to start the season.
Of those winners, three Bearcats continued to break records and claim their spot in the UC record books.
Katrina Patterson claimed a personal best clocking in the 1500m run with a time of 4:28.03, securing the top slot in the UC record books by just over one second.
Ellie Leather continues to leave her mark in the UC record books, claiming another distance record, this time in the outdoor 5000m. Leather crossed the line at 16:40.28, 15 seconds faster than the previous record holder, Lilian Jelimo, who held the record since 2008.
Malin Smith also heaved two new personal bests in the discus throw (52.34m) and the hammer throw (57.07). With her performance in the discus throw, Malin claims the top slot in the UC record books as well as the No.34 spot in NCAA.
Over at the Sound Running Invite in Riverside, California, it was business as usual as the distance duo of Aaron Bienenfeld and Alec Sandusky wasted no time getting their outdoor season started.
The pair competed in the 10000m, with Bienenfeld securing a second-place finish and a personal best clocking of 28:10.95, shattering the current school record by 32 seconds.
With this mark, Bienenfeld currently holds the No.5 spot in the NCAA 10000m rankings and his third Top-10 national ranking this year.
Sandusky also pulled a new personal best in the 10000m and a third-place finish, crossing the line at 28:40.59 and moving Sandusky to the No. 6 slot in the UC record books.
