NEW ORLEANS -The University of Cincinnati Bearcats rode a season-high 24 kills from Maria Mallon to a 3-1 win over Tulane on Friday night.

NEW ORLEANS, LA --The Cincinnati volleyball team got the job done in four sets (26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20) to take down the Tulane Green Wave Friday on the road at Avron B Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.

The victory improved the Bearcats' record to 15-8 overall and 10-5 in AAC action.

The Bearcats were led by a double-double from Maria Mallon, who registered 25 kills and 11 digs on the day. Madison Waters also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Molly Harrison chipped in for UC with 13 digs to go with two blocks from Kailea Carrier.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1: The match started out even until UC took a 6-4 lead through an Emme Madden kill and service ace from Maria Mallon. The set remained even until a 5-1 run for the visitors gave them a 20-16 lead. The Bearcats rode four Mallon kills to take the first set 26-24.

Set 2: The second set started similarly to the first with the teams trading points. A Madison Waters kill to extend the lead to 6-4 was the biggest Bearcats advantage until Abby Walker served up an ace at 13-10. A 5-0 Cincinnati run led by Maria Mallon and Kaliea Carrier extended their lead to 20-16. They withheld a late Tulane run to win the set 25-23.

Set 3: The Bearcats rebounded from a 4-0 start to tie it at eight thanks to two kills from Maria Mallon and one from Madison Waters. Cincinnati got the lead to 15-11  and 20-15 but could not finish off the set. Tulane went on a 6-1 run to win the third set 25-23.

Set 4: Cincinnati started the fourth set on a 6-1 run thanks to two kills from Maria Mallon. She continued her great form and Madison Waters got a kill to extend the lead to 12-8. The Bearcats rode some great serves from Peyton Frederick and Emme Madden for a 20-14 lead. Maria Mallon registered two more kills and an emphatic kill from Abby Walker closed out the final set for the Bearcats who would win it 25-20.
