CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati volleyball player Elissa Alcantara was named Rookie of the Year for the Women's Senior Volleyball League of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation.
Alcantara was the fifth best scorer in the regular season with 390 points, 311 kills (#8 in the league), 37 in blocks (#25) and 42 service aces in 93 sets played, for an average of 4.19 points per set. Her 42 aces established her as the leader throughout the tournament. During the season, she had six matches with four aces.
The Valencianas rookie was also the player with the most points in one night, achieving 34 against the Guaynabo Mets on Jan. 23, 2024.
Alcantara played her final two seasons of college volleyball for Cincinnati. She joined a number of former Bearcats in the professional ranks, including Jordan Thompson.
