Cincinnati Completes Weather-Hampered First Day at Jesse Owens Classic

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams completed only four events during day one of the Jesse Owens Invitational on Friday, as multiple weather delays disrupted the schedule.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams completed only four events during day one of the Jesse Owens Invitational on Friday, as multiple weather delays disrupted the schedule.
 
The hammer throw, javelin throw, 400m hurdle and 5000m dash events were able to take place.
 
The standout distance runner, freshman Patrick Kiprop, secured a first-place finish, recording a personal best time of 14:01.51. This mark improves his hold on the fifth fastest time in Bearcat history. Freshman Lucas Towne also entered the school record book. Finishing right behind Kiprop, Towne earned third place, clocking a 14:13.95. Towne now owns the seventh fastest time in UC history.
 
Junior sprinter Camden Beatty continues to move up the program ranks in the 400m hurdles, as the Worthington, Ohio native notched another personal best time. Beatty earned third place after logging a 51.41 second time, placing him third in UC history.
 
In the women's hammer throw, graduate student Hannah Blood and senior Miranda Tcheutchoua finished an inch apart from each other, claiming fourth and fifth place. Tcheutchoua recorded a toss of 58.43m to come in fourth, while Blood unleashed a throw of 58.40m, taking fifth.
