Baseball Drops Rain-Shortened Finale To Seton Hall 14-4

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team lost a 14-4, rain-shortened series finale to visting Seton Hall, Sunday in BIG EAST Conference action at Marge Schott Stadium.

Seton Hall (30-16, 14-5 BIG EAST) jumped out to an early lead for the second-straight day and did not look back, scoring 10 runs in the first four innings to hand UC (18-29, 4-17 BIG EAST) its fourth-consecutive loss.

The game was in a rain delay for 30 minutes after the sixth inning, and was called to due persistent rain.

Giuseppe Papaccio was 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored on the day. He finished the series hitting .538 (7-13) with 11 RBI, two homeruns and two doubles. Sal Annunziata also went 4-for-4 with a homerun, four RBI and two runs scored. Chris Selden, who who hit .583 for the series with 10 RBI, added a pair of hits and three RBI Sunday.

Anthony Elia started for the Pirates, went 5.2 innings, walked two, struck out two and picked up the win, moving his record to 5-2 on the season. Connor Walsh (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) pitched into the second inning, giving up five runs and striking out one while taking the loss.

UC's Matt Williams (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian) was 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for UC. Williams hit .417 (5-of-12) with four RBI on the weekend. Devin Wenzel (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, finishing the weekend off with six hits in 12 at bats.

The Bearcats will play a pair of non-conference games against Xavier, at the Musketeers Tuesday at 3 p.m. and at Marge Schott Stadium on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., before welcoming Santa Clara to MSS for a three-game non-conference series next weekend. UC and the Broncos will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
