CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati soccer standout Vanessa Gilles was one of 18 athletes nominated to represent Canada for the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Gilles, a center back with the national team, is one of the most decorated players in UC women's soccer history. She will make her Olympic debut in July and is the third former UC student-athlete to earn a nomination to the games, joining Annette Echikunwoke (Nigeria – Hammer Throw) and Jordan Thompson (United States – Volleyball).
Gilles has six previous caps with the Canadian National Team, including five starts. The 2017 American Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year plays professionally with Girondins de Bordeaux in France's top division.
CANADIAN WOMEN'S SOCCER OLYMPIC SCHEDULE – GROUP PLAY
• vs. Japan – July 21, 2021 (Sapporo, Japan – 6:30 a.m. ET)
• vs. Chile – July 24, 2021 (Sapporo, Japan – 3:30 a.m. ET)
• vs. Great Britain – July 27, 2021 (Kashima, Japan – 7 a.m. ET)
From 12 nations in three groups, the top-eight nations advance to the Olympic Quarterfinals with the top two from each of the groups joined by the top two third place finishers. The Quarterfinal winners will advance to the Semifinals with the winners playing in the Gold Medal Final at Tokyo's Olympic Stadium and the other two Semifinalists playing for the Bronze Medal.
