TicketsEugene, Ore. – The women's track and field events at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships started today with finals in field events and semifinals in track events. Ellie Leather advanced to Saturday's final in the 1,500-meter run and Leonie Troeger scored 21st place in the javelin throw.
LEONIE TROEGER – Javelin Throw:
Troeger, the UC record-holder in the javelin throw, threw 50.34m (165' 2") to take 21st in the nation. Her first throw of the day was the furthest of her three attempts. Troeger looks to continue competing in the javelin throw over the Summer in her home country of Germany and is excited for another healthy season with the Bearcats next year.
ELLIE LEATHER – 1,500-meter Run:
Leather ran a smart race in heat two of the 1,500-meter semifinals, picking up the pace in the last lap to secure a spot in the final with a time of 4:14.20, the sixth fastest of the day. Her sixth-place finish in the heat advanced to the final based on time and puts her sixth going into the final. She hopes to earn First-Team All-American status once again by placing in the top eight in Saturday's final.
NEXT UP
Finals in the men's events take place on Friday. Day four of the NCAA Championship meet will take place on Saturday with Leather competing in the 1,500-meter run final at 5:41 p.m. EST. Saturday's competition will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 5:30 p.m. EST.
