WACO, Texas—The University of Cincinnati track and field team claimed two podium finishes on Thursday as the Bearcats battled climatic weather on day one of the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

A two-hour-long severe weather delay did not stop the Bearcats from recording two podium finishes and two program top 10 marks.

The Bearcats opened up the meet on a high note as graduate student Noah Thomas scored the first points of the weekend for UC after placing eighth overall in the men's hammer throw and earned All-Big 12 honors. Thomas launched a personal best throw of 61.98m / 203' 4", the second-best mark in school history to achieve the feat.

Senior and captain of the throws squad, Hannah Jackson started her weekend off strong as she earned All-Big 12 honors by placing fourth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 58.17m. / 190' 10". Jackson scored five points for the women's team and will look to score more on Friday as she will compete in the women's shot put.

Freshman standout Juliette Laracuente-Huebner looked as impressive as always in the women's heptathlon. After four events she has totaled 3354 points and sits in third.

Laracuente-Huebner placed second in both the 100m hurdles (14.05) and the 200m (24.28) sections. She also placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m / 5' 8". The heptathlon will pick back up tomorrow at 12:45 pm ET with the long jump portion.

The dynamic duo of junior Dominique Hall and senior Justin Abrams put on a show in the opening portion of the men's decathlon.

Through five events, Hall is in second place with 3,944 points and is on pace for a career-high score. The Alabama native won the 400m section with a season-best time of 47.94. He also placed second in the long jump (6.96m / 22' 10") and third in the 100m after running a personal best time of 10.91.

Despite having to wait out the weather delay, graduate student Jed Helker didn't let that prevent him from qualifying for the 1,500m finals on Saturday.

Helker secured his spot in the final after running the second-fastest time in program history, 3:42.08.
