Forty-One Student-Athletes to participate in 191st UC Commencement

CINCINNATI - Forty-one University of Cincinnati student-athletes are set to receive their degrees Saturday, June 12, 2010, in a pair of ceremonies at Fifth Third Arena, marking the 191st Commencement of the University.

The morning ceremony begins at 9 a.m. for the College of Allied Health Sciences, College of Business, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH), College of Nursing, and College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).

The afternoon ceremony begins at 2 p.m. for Clermont College, College of Engineering and Applied Science, College of Arts and Sciences, Raymond Walters College, and the School of Social Work.

Elinore de Jong (women's swimming), Brian Berling and Jason Berling (men's track and field), Randall and Richard King (men's track and field), Boudine Bouma (women's track and field), and Courtney Hentz (women's track and field) are among 109 graduates earning summa cum laude honors, representing a University grade point average between 3.90 and 4.00.

Kate Moore (women's golf) and Heather Neiser (women's soccer) were among 224 magna com laude graduates, representing a GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999.

Brian Garman (baseball), Patricia Kelly (lacrosse), Shannon Lynes (lacrosse), and Nicholas Saul (men's swimming) are among 280 graduates awarded cum laude honors, representing a GPA between 3.60 and 3.7499.

UC's Office of Institutional Research reports that 4,660 students applied for graduation, exceeding the 20-year high of UC's 2008 spring graduating class, which was 4,555.

Nathaniel R. Jones, a retired judge for the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and current Senior Counsel and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the firm Blank Rome LLP, will address graduates.
