Kabrina Merriweather enters her third season as an assistant coach at Cincinnati in 2025-26. The youngest sister of head coach Katrina Merriweather, Kabrina Merriweather specializes in coaching the posts unit and leads all cultural development.
Kabrina Merriweather was named to the WBCA Thirty Under 30 list for two straight seasons (2023, 2024). The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
In 2024-25, Merriweather helped lead the team to its best winning percentage since 2019-20, including UC's highest non-conference winning percentage (.800, 8-2) since 2005-06 and its most conference victories (7) since 2019-20.
Her work with the Bearcats' posts in 2023-24 led Cincinnati to finish the season ranked 23rd nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.5), 53rd in total rebounding (39.66) and 54th in rebounding margin (+5.0).
Merriweather comes to Cincinnati after serving in the same role at Memphis in 2022-23, where she helped lead the Tigers to a 22-11 record, the program’s first 20-win campaign in more than a decade, and an appearance in the 2023 WNIT Sweet 16.
Her work with the Tigers’ posts led Memphis to finish the season ranked seventh nationally and first in the conference with 43.5 rebounds per game, the program’s best average since 1993-94 and sixth-best overall, and Destiny Thomas to 2022-23 American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team honors.
Prior to Memphis, Merriweather spent two years at New Mexico from 2020-22, where she was elevated to an assistant coach role as an under Mike Bradbury in 2021-22 after spending 2020-21 as the Lobos’ Director of Operations. Merriweather specialized in the post players, where she guided Shaiquel McGruder to the Mountain West All-Conference and All-Defensive team accolades and Paula Reus to the Mountain West All-Freshman team.
New Mexico staged a historic run in 2021-22 after finishing the regular season 23-8 and 14-4 in Mountain West play, the Lobos advanced to the conference tournament semi-finals before being selected to play in the WNIT for the second consecutive season. New Mexico proved to be one of the most dangerous teams in the conference in 2020-21 with a 15-5 record and 11-3 conference mark to claim the Mountain West regular season title.
Prior to her stint at New Mexico, Merriweather spent a season as a coach with the Indianapolis Bandits, a semi-professional basketball team.
Preceding her stint with the Bandits, Merriweather was a teacher and basketball coach at alma mater, Tindley High School, in Indianapolis, Ind. for four years. She also spent eight years with The Family Inc., an AAU powerhouse, in various capacities, including serving as a coach.
A former forward for Florida A&M and Georgia Southwestern State from 2011-15, Merriweather earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in education in 2015. Despite a college career stunted by injury, Merriweather spent three years as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
