- Three-year starter at left guard, during which time he earned the reputation of being one of the top downfield blockers in college football.
- Earned All-Mid-American Conference and All-Ohio honors in each of his three seasons as a starter.
- Earned team's Most Efficient Lineman Award in 1951.
- Also competed in track, winning the Ohio College state title in the shot put.
- Honorable mention All-American in 1952 (AP, UPI, NEA).
- Played in the East-West Shrine and the College All-Star games.
- Jersey number (29) retired.
- UC Athletics Hall of Fame 1984.
