Day One Ready - A campaign to compete for Big 12 Championships - Student Athlete Nutrition

Student-Athlete Nutrition

Since the NCAA deregulated rules on student-athletes’ meals in 2014, Power 5 schools have focused their attention on nutrition management. Knowing what and when to eat can directly impact student-athletes’ competitive performance, physical recovery and overall mental health and well-being.

UC Athletics has invested in nutrition management through the addition of fuel stations and a departmental nutrition program. With your support for the newly created Student-Athlete Nutrition Fund, we can expand on these efforts to ensure our 450-plus Bearcats have the knowledge and resources they need to stay fueled and healthy.

The fund will provide financial support for a full-time sports nutritionist to work directly with each of UC’s varsity programs. It also will help increase nutrient-focused meal offerings at The Varsity Club dining hall on campus.

“Proper nutrition is fuel for all student-athletes, but it’s especially important in swimming and diving, where you’re racing for every hundredth of a second and diving for every tenth of a point. For our swimmers and divers to keep performing at high levels and earn more opportunities to compete in the Olympic Trials, dedicated resources for their nutrition will be crucial.”
