The contributions she made to women's sports and well-being during her 40 years at UC are immeasurable.
Came to UC in 1922 as an instructor in health and physical education, rising to the rank of assistant professor in 1923 and associate professor in 1926.
For much of her tenure, she served essentially as the athletics director for the women's sports program, which was operated on a philosophy of broad-based participation.
Organized the first certified health education courts of studies at UC.
The Helen Norman Smith Award, annually honoring the top female senior student-athlete at UC, is named in her honor.
UC Athletic Hall of Fame 1979.
