Huggins Agrees To Discuss UC Contract Extension

CINCINNATI, Ohio (March 29) -- University of Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins will meet with athletic director Bob Goin in order to begin discussions towards extending Huggins' contract.
"I am thrilled that Bob Huggins has agreed to meet with me in order to begin preliminary discussions towards extending his contract," Goin said. "I am optimistic that we will be able to work out the details that will have him coach the UC basketball team for years to come.
"Bobby and I have informally talked about extending his contract for some time now and I expect that once the spring recruiting season ends in the next couple of weeks, that talks will intensify and we can see what we can work out.
"It is my intention that Bob Huggins remain as Cincinnati's basketball coach," Goin added.
Huggins, the winningest coach in Cincinnati basketball history with a 301-96 record in 12 seasons, is in the sixth year of a 10-year contract extension that he signed during the summer of 1995, leaving him under contract through the 2004-05 season.
Huggins has guided the Bearcats to a school-record 10 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, winning six straight Conference USA regular season titles. His teams have won 25 or more games in each of the last six seasons and 20 wins or more in 10 straight years.
Huggins owns a 20-year head coaching record of 469-168 (.736), making him the seventh-winningest coach in winning percentage and 26th in win among active Division I mentors. goals in his junior college career.
