Three Bearcat Rowers Earn Awards At Banquet

Graham, Kleine and Schnieder became first rowers to earn varsity team recognition

CINCINNATI, Ohio-- Sophomore Melissa Kleine (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) became the first rower in program history to be presented with the University of Cincinnati's "Big Bearcat" award, signifying team's hardest working rower, during the team's awards banquet on May 24 in the Shoemaker Center.

Kleine controlled the two seat of the Second Varsity Eight boat this season, helping guide the team to four first-place finishes.

Teammate Emilie Graham (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park) garnered the team's Most Improved Award. The freshman moved into the four seat of the First Varsity Eight boat after the Bearcats' first spring race. With Graham in the boat, the crew won two races and never finished lower than fifth in its final races.

Cincinnati also recognized team co-captain Laura Schnieder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings)with the "Little Bearcat" award, presented to the most spirited rower. Schnieder rowed in the second seat of the First Varsity Eight this season.
