BUIES CREEK, N.C.---Senior Neil Lykins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) is in second place, just three strokes out of the top spot after day one of the Lonnie D. Small Intercollegiate hosted by Campbell University.
Lykins shot a first round total of 73 and trails only Campbell?s Braxton Wynns, who carded a first day 70 on his home course. Lykins total has helped the Bearcats to third place in the team standings after 18 holes, tailing second place Villanova by just three strokes with a total of 318. Campbell has the team lead after a first day 296.
Cincinnati?s women?s team was also in action at Campbell beginning today in the Fighting Camel Classic and are tied for fourth with Long Island University with first day totals of 353.
Individually, sophomore Allison Couch (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) leads the Bearcats, in a tie for ninth after carding a first round 82. Senior Mandy Puckett (Farmland, Ind./Monroe Central) is also in the top 20, tied for 16th after carding a day one 85.
For the men, junior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) ranks 16th, with a 80, just one stroke ahead of teammate John Clodfelder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) who is tied for 20th.
Play in both tournaments concludes on Tuesday with the final 18 holes, beginning at 8 a.m.
