Rowing Finishes Competition With Dayton, Indiana

Coxswain Rhonda Burke led the Bearcat second varsity eight to three wins on Saturday.

DAYTON, Ohio---Poor weather and water conditions forced an alteration in the format for the days? event, but it didn?t stop the University of Cincinnati rowing team from fairing well in a three-way regatta with Dayton and Indiana on Saturday.

With the competition shifted to the Great Miami River, each of the races were broken into three, 1,000 meter pieces. The Bearcats? second varsity eight consisting of Rhonda Burke, Erin Liesenfled, Rachel Armstrong, Katie Herman, Lauren Baker, DaVonna Tucker, Marta Borazanian, Ashley Biershbach and Melissa Kleine found the most success, winning all three segments of their race.

Cincinnati?s first varsity eight and the novice four each won two of three races, while the varsity four and novice eight were winners in one segment each.

?I thought we gave a good performance considering the conditions,? said Bearcats head coach Tim Royalty. ?It was a step up from our last performance and we can use it to help us to continue improving. It was nice to see the performance of our second varsity eight, it shows the kind of depth that we have.?

The Bearcats return to action next Saturday when they travel to Miami, Fla. to face the Hurricanes.
