TAMPA, Fla.---The first round is complete at the 2003 Conference USA Golf Tournament and the Cincinnati men?s golf team is in 12th spot, while the women?s squad is ninth after 18 holes.
Senior Neil Lykins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) is the highest of any Bearcat, tied for 11th after a first round 72. On the women?s side, sophomore Allison Couch (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) is showing the way for Cincinnati, tied for 26th after a first round 81. Men?s player Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) is the only other Bearcat in the top-30, tied for 29th following a first round 74.
The men?s team standings show the Bearcats just one stroke out of 10th place, where Louisville and Marquette are tied at 298. Charlotte is leading the race for the championship at 285, three strokes ahead of UAB and TCU.
In women?s action, TCU is on top of the nine-team field with a score of 304. The Bearcats find themselves in ninth after one day, with a total of 347.
Round two of the tournament gets underway at 7:45 a.m. at the Lake Jovita Golf Course in Tampa.
