Stokes Named UC Basketball MVP

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Leonard Stokes was named team most valuable player at the University of Cincinnati men's basketball awards banquet.
The 6-6 senior forward from Buffalo, N.Y. led the Bearcats in scoring with his 15.7-point scoring average and was second on the team in rebounding (4.8) and assists (3.2).
Taron Barker, the Bearcats' 6-1 senior point guard (Racine, Wis.), was named Best Defensive Player. He also claimed the trophy for leading the team in assists with his 5.0 average.
Other Bearcats who were cited for leading the team in statistical categories were Jason Maxiell (Carrollton, Texas), who garnered the rebounding award with his 6.7 average, and Field Williams (Houston, Texas), who topped all teammates with his .907 free throw percentage.
Junior center Kareem Johnson (Eufaula, Ala.) was honored as the team's Most Improved Player. Sophomore reserve guard John Meeker (Troy, Ohio) was presented with the Coaches Award for his hard work and dedication.
