CINCINNATI, Ohio---University of Cincinnati volleyball coach Reed Sunahara and sophomore star Julie DuPont have been chosen to represent the United States as part of the European Spring Cup, to be held over the next 11 days in Brno, Czech Republic.
The Cup features national teams from across Europe competing against one another in one of the premier tournaments of its kind. Sunahara has been selected as the USA's head coach, while DuPont was named to the 13-player roster. The U.S.'s developmental team roster is made up of all college volleyball players from across the country.
"This is a great opportunity to be a part of the USA Volleyball program," said Sunahara. "I am really looking forward to the opportunity to coach this team."
Sunahara and DuPont will depart Cincinnati today and spend the next three days practicing with their team in Prague, Czech Republic. After traveling to Brno on May 10, the squad opens play with a match against Denmark's national team the following day. Also included in the USA's slate are contests with Slovakia, Turkey and the Czech Republic's B team.
"Often we will be playing more than one match per day," said Sunahara. "The first match of the day will be the official one and then after that we will play any national teams that want to pick up a match."
The team is scheduled to return to the U.S. on May 18.
