Cincinnati, Ohio -- Sophomore volleyball player Julie DuPont (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) has been chosen as the University of Cincinnati?s representative for the seventh annual NCAA Leadership Conference. The event which brings together student-athletes from Divisions I, II and III from across the nation, will be held May 25-29 at the Coronado Springs Resort and Walt Disney World Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
The goal of the conference each year is to provide an opportunity for student-athletes to gather and discuss key issues, while giving them a chance to develop skills that will make them more effective leaders upon returning to their respective campuses.
Some of the topics that will be discussed during the five-day conference include the demands and expectations of student-athletes; inclusion education; international student-athlete experiences; recruiting visits; student-athlete responsibility; party behaviors; trust gaps within intercollegiate athletics and sportsmanship.
?Julie is a great representative of our program and she definitely deserves to be down there,? said Bearcat head volleyball coach Reed Sunahara. She is a great leader in our community.?
Eligible delegates for the conference are student-athletes that are in good academic standing and have athletic eligibility remaining for the following year. The candidates are those that have been recognized as leaders on campus and in the community at their respective schools.
In addition to numerous athletic honors, DuPont has been involved in work with Habitat for Humanity through CPAWS (UC?s student-athlete advisory group), while serving as the volleyball team?s representative for the student advisory council (SAC). She has also been involved in church activities which include 1,000 Hands, a group that builds playgrounds for children.
