FAIRFAX, Va.---Julie DuPont erupted for 23 kills for the second straight match but it wasn?t enough as the Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a four-game decision to George Washington on Friday during play at the Patriot Invitational.

The Bearcats (1-1) jumped to leads in both of the first two games of the match, only to see the Colonials (2-0) rally twice to score 35-33 and 31-29 victories. UC came back to cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 30-17 win in game three, but George Washington closed out the match with a 30-24 win.

?We just couldn?t finish out games,? said a disappointed Reed Sunahara. ?We had chances to win the first two games, but we couldn?t put them away. We have to learn to finish better.?

Four Bearcats reached double-figures in kills led by DuPont who also added 11 digs and six blocks. With her kill total, DuPont climbs another slot on the UC career kill chart into eighth place with 986. Dani Peterson is next on the list with 1,040.

Rachel Torblaa tacked on 13 kills with seven blocks, while Maria Pongonis and Leslie Newell each added 12. Sophomore Lindsey Garrison led all players in digs, posting a career-high 26.

After being outhit .303 to .256 in Friday?s earlier win against Southwest Missouri State, UC fell victim to hitting a higher percentage and losing in the defeat against GW. The Colonials managed just a .170 clip, including a -.063 in game three, but were able to limit the Bearcats to just .223 for the contest.

Three Colonials players tallied double-figure kills led by Laura Harrison with 15. Sarah Hokom was right behind with 13 and Kelly Kabbes had 10. UC?s Laura Lauder won the battle of the setters, tallying 54 assists, along with 10 digs, to 42 assists and eight digs for GW?s Lauren Downing.
