Cincinnati, Ohio -- University of Cincinnati sophomore pitcher Bryan Wood (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) was honored on Sunday as one of seven recipients of the Rosie Red Scholarship. Wood was honored on the field at Great American Ballpark, prior to the Reds game with the Montreal Expos.
?We are once again thrilled and appreciative to have the support of the Rosie Red group,? said Bearcat head coach Brian Cleary. ?It is really outstanding that a player like Bryan Wood has been honored for his contributions to Cincinnati baseball. We are thankful for the Rosie Reds support of Bearcat baseball.?
The Rosie Reds are a support group of the Cincinnati Reds who annually award scholarships to players from UC, Xavier, Dayton, Miami (OH), Northern Kentucky and Thomas More, in addition to one for Withrow High School.
Wood concluded his freshman year appearing in 13 games, including one start. Wood posted an 0-3 record, but picked up his first career save, while posting an ERA of 8.22 in 23 innings of work. The son of Dick and Robyn Wood is majoring in business at UC.
