CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -- Andy Wietmarschen placed second and Ruth Limo fifth as the University of Cincinnati cross country teams competed at the first annual Illini Challenge on Saturday. The women ran to a sixth place team finish.
Wietmarschen (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) bettered UC?s season top-time by 19 seconds on his way to a second place finish (25:07). Eric Stender (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) and Taylor Garvin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) beat the best time finishing in forth (25:16) and fifth (25:19) respectively. The entire top-five pack of Cincinnati runners finished within 49 seconds and 14 positions of each other. No team scores were kept for the men?s race.
Five Bearcats turned in their top performance of the season, including Limo (Eldoret, Kenya/St. Joseph Girls) who bettered her previous top-time of 18:43 by 44 seconds, finishing the 5K race in fifth place (17:59). Five Bearcats turned in their top performance of the season. Jennifer Limle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) ran to the 23rd position in a time of 18:53, and freshman Cristy Doll (Northbend, Ohio/Taylor) finished third for Cincinnati in 26th place (18:57).
Cincinnati returns to action Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Conference USA meet in Tampa, Florida.
