Men Place Second at C-USA

TAMPA, Fl -- The Cincinnati men?s cross country team placed second out of 12 and the women fifth of 14 at the Conference USA Championships Saturday. Andy Wietmarchen led the tight Bearcat pack in the first race of the day, while Ruth Limo was the fastest for the women.
Cincinnati?s top five runners were separated by 34 seconds and 11 places. Wietmarchen was the first finisher for UC for the fifth week in a row, placing 12th in the 8k race in a time of 25:31. Eric Bair finished just four places behind in 16th in a time of 25:42. Taylor Garvin was on his heels in 17th (25:47). Mike Smith placed 20th in 25:58, and Brad Neumann rounded out Cincinnati?s pack in 23rd place (26:05). Other Cincinnati times: 26.Eric Mayhaus, 26:28; 49. Eric Stender, 26:55.
Ruth Limo led the Bearcats on the women?s side, finishing the first 6k race of the season in 22:16 for 19th place. Three Bearcats finished on each other?s heels with Karen Berling in 31st (22:53), Jennifer Limle in 32nd (22:55) and Abi Hamrick in 33rd (22:57). Cristy Doll placed 41st in a time of 23:20, and Tanya Gauvin placed 58th in 23:58. Dominique Lopez Stickney also scored for Cincinnati, placing 79th in 24:42.
The Bearcats travel next to the Great Lakes Regional Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 15.
