LOUISVILLE, Ky.---The University of Cincinnati volleyball team returned to its winning ways with a three-game sweep of Ball State on Friday in the first match of the Conference USA/Mid-American Conference Challenge. The Bearcats took wins of 30-20, 30-24, 30-20 in improving to 27-4 on the year.
Less than one week after falling out of the C-USA tournament in the quarterfinals, UC bounced back with a .340 team hitting percentage in the next to last regular season match of the year. Rachel Torblaa led the Bearcats with 13 kills, hitting .375 and adding four blocks. C-USA Player of the Year Julie DuPont registered her 23rd double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs on .300 hitting.
?I thought we played a lot better than we have in the past two weeks,? said Bearcat head coach Reed Sunahara. ?Everyone really stepped up in this match and we got a really good all-around effort.?
C-USA Setter of the Year Laura Lauder controlled the offense with 32 assists, adding nine digs on defense. The Bearcat defense limited Ball State (17-16) to just .138 hitting. First-team All-MAC selection Sarah Obras led all players with 19 kills and added 14 digs.
The Bearcats return to action, wrapping up play in Louisville tomorrow at 1 p.m, facing Western Michigan in Cardinal Arena.
