Julie DuPont was named an Academic All-American on Thursday.

CINCINNATI, Ohio---University of Cincinnati volleyball standout Julie DuPont (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America second team for her success on and off the court.

DuPont is a communications disorders major carrying a 3.96 GPA. The junior is leading Conference USA in kills per game and was recently named the league's player of the year. She has led the team in kills in all but five matches this season and has 24 double-doubles. Off the court, DuPont has been active with CPAWS, while also participating in Habitat for Humanity. Last spring, DuPont was selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference and she is the team's representative on the student-athlete advisory council.

This is the second straight year DuPont has been selected as an Academic All-American. Last year, DuPont earned a spot on the third team.

This year?s team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.

DuPont is the third UC student-athlete be named Academic All-America this year. She joins men's soccer players Tim Brown and Anders Cedergren who were honored earlier this fall.

DuPont and the Bearcats are making the program's fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance, opening play today at 5 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla. UC will face Central Florida in the opening round at Florida's O'Connell Center.
