CINCINNATI, Ohio---Junior Julie DuPont added to her already lengthy list of awards when she was named the University of Cincinnati volleyball team's most valuable player during the team's annual banquet, held Saturday afternoon at the Vernon Manor Hotel.
DuPont (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), who in 2003 became UC's first-ever All-American and the program's first Conference USA Player of the Year, also took home the hardware for Best Offensive Player. In addition, DuPont was recognized as a team co-captain, sharing the honor with senior Laura Lauder (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy).
Two other players, sophomore Lindsey Garrison (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and junior Rachel Torblaa (Savage, Minn./Burnsville), were also honored by the UC coaching staff. The duo shared the award for the team's Best Defensive Player, while Garrison was also touted as the most improved player. Both players were third team All C-USA choices this season.
The 2003 Bearcats finished the season with a 27-6 record, capturing a share of the C-USA regular season title and earning a fifth straight NCAA Tournament bid. UC is expected to welcome back nine of last season's 11 letterwinners for the 2004 campaign.
