SYLACUAGA, Ala.---Three Bearcat golfers finished in the top-25 as the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring with an eighth place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Senior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) and freshman Geoff Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) paced the Bearcats, sharing 14th with final scores of 186. Larbes shot a final round 74, while Newman equalled his career-best, firing a 72. Another freshman Adam Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) rounded out UC?s top finishers, coming home tied for 25th, with a total of 190.
In the team standings, Cincinnati finished with a total of 760, just four strokes behind seventh place Evansville and only 13 behind fifth-place Lipscomb. Tennessee State won the team title, due in large part to Robert Dinwiddie winning the tournament after setting a course record with a final round 64 on Tuesday.
The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was reduced to a total of 45 after bad weather on Monday cancelled the final nine holes of the day.
The Bearcats are now idle until March 26-27 when they travel to Richmond, Ky. for the Eastern Kentucky Spring Intercollegiate.
