Steve Pickerell hit his second homer of the year on Wednesday at Purdue.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.---A season-high three Cincinnati home runs weren?t enough as Purdue pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-6 win over the Bearcats on Wednesday at Lambert Field.

Steve Pickerell, Jack Nelson and Aaron Moll all homered for the Bearcats who fall to 3-17 on the year with the loss. The homer for Pickerell was one of two hits on the day for the senior backstop, while he also added three RBI. Nelson also had two hits, with three runs scored, while Erik Eitel added two hits.

Pickerell put the Bearcats up 2-0 in the first with his second long ball of the year. Purdue answered with four runs in the bottom of the second, two coming on a two-run single by Mitch Hilligoss. Nelson got UC back within a run when he hit his first home run of the year to left center in the third. Moll retied the game at four in the sixth when he lined a homer down the left field line.

In the bottom half of the inning, Purdue tied the game once more on an RBI groundout by Hilligoss. Cincinnati came back once again in the seventh when Pickerell drove in his third run of the day with a single up the middle and Drew Saylor walked with the bases loaded.

But in the bottom of the inning, the Boilermakers pushed the winning runs across against losing pitcher Brad Hunt (0-2). A Matt Bush single tied the game at six and Mike Coles single to right proved to be the winning run.

Jason Driscoll picked up the win for Purdue, going the last 2.1 innings to improve to 1-1 on the year. Six Purdue players registered two hits apiece, as the Boilermakers banged out 14 hits on the day. The Boilermakers improve to 7-8 on the year with the win.

The Bearcats will now return to Conference USA play with a weekend trip to Louisville. First pitch on Friday from Cardinal Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
