RICHMOND, Ky.?Freshman Joe Young fired a career-best round of 71 to end day one of the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational tied for 10th overall, leading the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team on Friday in its second tournament of the spring.
After starting the day with a career-low round of 75, Young (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) went four strokes better in the second 18 holes of the day to move into a tie for 10th place. Young?s effort has helped the Bearcats to seventh place in the team standings, due in large part to a team season-low total of 296 in the second round. The Bearcats trail sixth place Bellarmine by just six strokes and are only 14 strokes out of the top-five. Eastern Kentucky leads the team standings with a total of 571.
Senior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) is the second-highest ranked Bearcat after 36 holes, tied for 26th with a total of 150. Sophomore Justin Wilson (Canfield, Ohio/Western Reserve) overcame an opening round 81 to shoot a career-best round of 73 in the final 18 holes.
The tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes on Saturday at 8 a.m.
