RICHMOND, Ky.---Freshman Joe Young fired a final round 74 to end the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational tied for 16th, leading the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team in its second tournament of the spring.
Young (Geneva, Ill./Geneva), on the heels of a career-best round of 71 on Friday, captured the best finish of his young collegiate career, helping the Bearcats to a season-best finish of sixth in the team standings. Young finished the tournament with at three round score of 220.
In the team standings, the Bearcats matched their season-best round of 296 for the second round in a row to finish sixth in the team standings. UC, at 895, was just 14 strokes behind fifth place Oakland. Eastern Kentucky won the team title with a score of 854.
Senior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) and freshman Adam Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) finished tied for 35th at 227. Freshman Geoff Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) also had a solid day, shooting a 73, tying the second-lowest round of his career.
The Bearcats will next be in action on April 8, when they vie for the Krump Kup, hosted by Northern Kentucky University.
