FLORENCE, Ky.---The University of Cincinnati golf teams finished second in the Krump Kup on Thursday, losing the team title after a tiebreaker went to the hosts Northern Kentucky.
The uniquely scored event combines the top two scores for each the men?s and women?s team to crown a team champion. UC had the women?s individual winner as junior Allison Couch (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) took medalist honors with a round of 82.
The Bearcats? team scores for the men were an 80 by both freshman Adam Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) and senior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller). The women?s team contributed with Couch?s 82 and an 89 by freshman Sarah Bires (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville). The foursome ended with a score of 331, matching the score of the Norse.
The tiebreaker then went to the score of each squad?s third-place men?s player and women?s player. UC?s total was 176, after an 81 by John Clodfelder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and a 95 by Jackie Nimer (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe). NKU took the team title with a score of 174.
Both golf teams will be back in action again in the coming days. The men?s team competes in the Billiken Invitational hosted by Saint Louis on Monday and Tuesday. The women are off to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the Bronco Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
