MADISON, Ill.---Three Bearcats rank in the top-20 after the opening day of play at the Billiken Invitational, helping the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team to fifth place in the team standings through 36 holes.
Sophomore John Clodfelder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) put together two of his best rounds of the year, opening with a 72 and firing a 73 in the second round to end day one tied for second. Clodfelder is in a four-way deadlock for the spot and is just four strokes off of the lead.
Senior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) carded back-to-back rounds of 73 to end day one of the tournament in sixth in the standings. Freshman Adam Fluty (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) is in a tie for 13th after firing a career-best 72 in the opening round and following that up with a 77 in round two.
In the team standings, the Bearcats have a total of 604 and are just two strokes back of fourth place SE Missouri State. Saint Louis and Southern Illinois lead the way with a total of 592.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes from Gateway National Golf Links beginning at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
