MADISON, Ill.---Behind a seventh-place finish by walk-on freshman Adam Fluty, the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team concluded its final tune-up before the Conference USA Championship with a sixth place finish at the Billiken Invitational.
Three Bearcats finished the tournament in the top-20 led by Fluty (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) who fired a final round 74 to finish the tournament with a score of 223. Fluty finished the tournament just three shots back of tournament medalist Brian Norman of Southern Illinois.
Senior Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) was the second-highest placing UC player, coming home tied for 14 after a final round 81 gave him a total of 227. Sophomore John Clodfelder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who finished day one of the tournament tied for second, slipped to 16th in the final order after an 83 in the final 18 holes.
In the team standings, UC finished with a final score of 921, after carding a final round 317. UC finished just four shots back of fifth place S.E. Missouri State, while Southern Illinois took the team crown with a score of 892.
The Bearcats will wrap up their season next week, when they travel to the C-USA Tournament at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla. The three-day championship event gets underway on Monday (April 19).
