Adam Fluty is one of two UC golfers tied for 41st at the Conference USA Tournament.

DADE CITY, Fla.---The first 18 holes of the 2004 Conference USA Men?s Golf Tournament are in the books and the University of Cincinnati is in 12th place in the team standings. The championship event is being played at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.

Individually, the Bearcats have two players tied for 41st with scores of 78. Freshman Geoff Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) started the tournament with a 38 in the first nine holes, before carding a 40 on the back nine. Sophomore Adam Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) took the opposite track, shooting a 40 on the first nine and bettering that with a 38 over the final nine holes.

The team standings show the Bearcats with a score of 316, just seven strokes behind 11th place Marquette. Additionally, UC is only eight strokes out of the top 10, a spot occupied by a tie between Memphis and Tulane.

The tournament?s second of three rounds gets underway on Tuesday, with the first tee time of the day set for 7:45 a.m.
