DADE CITY, Fla.---Freshman Geoff Newman shot a team, tournament-best round of 74 to pace the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team in the final round of play at the 2004 Conference USA Tournament.
Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) finished the tournament tied for 51st with a score of 231. Sophomore Adam Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North), who led UC in the first 36 holes of play, carded a final round 79 to end the event in 55th place. The Bearcats? lone senior, Chris Larbes (West Chester, Ohio/Moeller) wrapped up his collegiate career with a final round 78, to end the event in a tie for 63rd.
The team standings showed the Bearcats in 13th place out of 14 squads, with a three-day total of 936. TCU captured the team championship with a score of 859, 12 shots better than second place Charlotte. The Horned Frogs also had the individual winner as Adam Meyer collected medalist honors with rounds of 68, 68 and 69 to finish with a 206 and a nine-shot cushion over Charlotte?s Ray Sheedy.
