CINCINNATI, Ohio---University of Cincinnati baseball player Jack Nelson (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrensville South) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team for his success on and off the field.
Nelson is a business management major carrying a 3.68 GPA. The sophomore ranks second on the team and 13th in Conference USA this season with a .358 batting average. Nelson has put together a career year for UC this season, tying for the team lead with 13 doubles, while adding career-bests of six home runs and 30 RBI.
Nelson was the only sophomore named to the 11-player first team and was one of four sophomores selected overall. His name will autmotically appear on the All-American ballot, with the teams being announced on June 1.
This year?s team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
