HOUSTON, Texas ? University of Cincinnati catcher Steve Pickerell (Norwood, Ohio/Norwood) has been named to the All-Conference USA second team, the league announced Tuesday. Pickerell earned the honor after putting together an outstanding offensive season this spring.

Pickerell finished the season as the team leader in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.375), home runs (14) and RBI (46). He enters the week tied for sixth in the league in hitting, third in walks (39), fourth in slugging percentage (.677) and on-base percentage (.476) and tied for sixth in homers.

This is the first all-conference accolade for Pickerell, who transferred to Cincinnati from Lake City CC prior to last season. It also marks the first Bearcat to be named all-conference since Brad Schutz, Joe List and Chris Hamblen who were all honored in 2002.

Cincinnati wrapped up the 2004 season with a 15-40 overall record and a 6-24 mark in C-USA, finishing in 11th in the league standings. The Bearcats did win their final game of the season, a 7-4 decision over UAB to wrap up the first series ever played in the UC Baseball Stadium.
