CINCINNATI, Ohio--University of Cincinnati senior soccer players Anders Cedergren and Kristina Wilson have been cited by Conference USA for their academic and athletic success. Cedergren has been selected as the league?s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men?s soccer, while Wilson was awarded one of six postgraduate scholarships.
Cedergren (Solvesborg, Sweden/Furulundsskolan) was honored as the top student-athlete in C-USA in men?s soccer based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service. On the field last fall, Cedergren started all 20 matches at defender and helped anchor a defense that set a school record with a 0.79 goals against average, while also contributing one goal on the offensive end. The Bearcats finished the campaign with a 10-4-6 mark, earning a share of the C-USA Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. A senior majoring in health promotions, Cedergren carries a 3.913 cumulative GPA and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American. He has been a co-captain for three straight years and was named second team All C-USA this season.
Wilson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) has been awarded one of six $4,000 postgraduate scholarships handed out by the league and voted on by the Faculty Athletics Representatives of each of the member schools. Wilson started all 89 games of her four-year career and twice earned All C-USA second team honors. She helped the Bearcats to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during her career, as well as two C-USA Tournament titles and one regular season crown. UC struggled last season, winding up the campaign with a 5-13-1 record. In 19 matches, Wilson recorded one goal and one assist for the Bearcats.
