CINCINNATI, Ohio ? Veteran assistant coach Bret McCormick has been added to the women?s basketball staff at the University of Cincinnati, head coach Laurie Pirtle announced today.
McCormick will head the Bearcat recruiting efforts as well as assist in coaching the UC post players.
?Not many people have more recruiting contacts in the country than Bret,? said Pirtle. ?He is an extremely well-respected recruiter and has a good grasp of coaching. Bret will have a great impact on our program as we move to the BIG EAST next year.?
McCormick joins the Bearcats after serving as a women?s college basketball scout for All-Star Girls Report since 1998. Prior to that he spent the 1997-98 season as an assistant at the University of Central Florida, where he led the recruiting efforts and helped the Golden Knights to their best season in 15 years.
McCormick spent a bulk of his career as the recruiting coordinator at Marshall University from 1993-97, where he recruited and coached two Southern Conference Freshman of the Year performers. He helped the Herd to its first NCAA Tournament appearance and Southern Conference Tournament title in 1997.
A native of Point Pleasant, W. Va., he graduated from the University of Rio Grande in 1982 and coached AAU basketball in his hometown until 1989. After serving as head coach at Point Pleasant Junior High from 1990-92, McCormick served as an assistant for the men?s team at the University of Charleston in 1992-93, before heading to Marshall.
