CINCINNATI, Ohio -- After a stellar four-year career at the University of Cincinnati, former Bearcat men?s soccer standout Tim Brown has inked a three-year contract with the Richmond Kickers of the professional A-League.
The Kickers, whose season started in mid-April, hold a record of 7-3-3 on the year. The squad?s regular season runs through the end of August with the playoffs kicking off at the beginning of September. Brown should be in Richmond in time for the Kickers? June 30 match against Cape Cod in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Cup.
?The Kickers are a very professional club,? said Brown. ?Its a good set-up. I think this is a significant jump from college competition and I am very excited about the chance to play on the next level. I am hoping to use this opportunity as a launching pad to a long professional career.?
Richmond is a member of the A-League, the premier professional organization of the United Soccer Leagues. With franchises throughout the United States and Canada in non-Major League Soccer markets, teams in the A-League provide a pool of players for MLS and international clubs. Each of the USL?s five individual leagues is directly affiliated with U.S. Soccer.
Brown concluded his Cincinnati career last fall as the second leading scorer on the squad with 15 points, including six goals. For his effort, Brown earned first team All-Conference USA honors, while also being lauded as an NSCAA Scholar All-America and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. During 2003, Brown helped the Bearcats to a share of the C-USA regular season championship and the program?s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998.
