CINCINNATI, Ohio -- University of Cincinnati seniors Trent Cole and Kyle Takavitz have been named to the watch list for the 2004 Rotary Lombardi Award, which honors college football's top lineman.
Cole, a 6-4, 260-pound defensive end from Wilberforce, Ohio, was a first team All-Conference USA selection last season. He was the Bearcats' second-leading tackler with 88 total stops and led the team with 14 tackles for loss.
Cole was on the watch list for the 2003 Ted Hendricks Award, which recognizes the nation's top defensive end.
Takavitz, a 6-4, 311-pound offensive lineman from Powell, Ohio, is back for his third season as a starter on the Cincinnati line. He earned first team All-C-USA honors for his play at left guard and also saw action at tackle.
Takavitz will begin his third season as a starter. He was the starting left tackle in 2002.
This is the 35th year that the Rotary Lombardi Award will honor college football's top lineman. The annual dinner will be held on Dec. 8 in Houston, with all proceeds added to the total of nearly $3 million that has been raised for the American Cancer Society since the award's inception.
