In today's edition of the Bearcats' European trip journal, a review of UC's final match in Scotland opens the piece. In addition, senior defender Angie Meyer and junior forward Lauren Buland share some of their experiences from overseas.

NEWBURGH, Scotland---The University of Cincinnati women?s soccer team closed its time in Scotland with yet another victory as they bested Newburgh by a 5-2 score on Tuesday. The Bearcats leave the country with a 3-0 record and now move on to Belgium this afternoon for their next round of competition. Against Newburgh, UC struck early jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first 1:15 of the half. Senior Lisa Stephens (Union, Mo./Union) dribbled through the backline and scored just 45 seconds into the contest. Only 30 seconds later, the Bearcats were at it again as Scotland native Ana Farmer (Renfrewshire, Scotland/Paisley Grammar) tallied her fourth goal of the preseason, gathering in a loose ball and scoring at the 1:15 mark of the half.

After Newburgh cut the Bearcat lead in half just before the half, UC rebounded with a trio of goals in the second stanza to pull away. Stephens converted a penalty kick early in the half for her second score of the contest. Freshman Amanda Ryan (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) put the Bearcats up 4-1 when she dribbled through a pair of defenders and scored at the 36:49 mark of the period.

A Newburgh goal at the 39:03 mark made it a 4-2 score, but UC senior Amy Mink (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) put the icing on the cake with a marker at the 42:44 mark to round out the scoring. For her efforts, Mink was chosen as the Player of the Game by Newburgh.

?This was the most competitive game we?ve played so far,? said Bearcat head coach Meridy Glenn. ?There was a much higher level of play tonight and the girls worked very hard on both teams. We started the game very focused and ready to play and I thought we played hard all the way to the end.?

An added bonus for the team came when former UC men?s soccer All-American Andrew Kean presented the awards following the match. Kean works for First Point USA, a service that places Scottish Athletes in American universities and colleges.

Hi, from Scotland. Today we played Newburgh for our third game. The competition was very good today! Probably the best yet! We were pumped to get out on the field today. After a great warm up we started the game and Lisa Stephens scored within the first minute of the game. We were ready to go! We scored one more that half by our own Scot: Ana Farmer. We kind of let down at the end of the game and they got one goal but after the great half time talk we were ready to play again scoring three more goals by Lisa Stephens, Amanda Ryan, and Amy Mink (our MVP of the game). It was a really exciting match and we had a blast playing the Scottish teams. It was an awesome game on a great field, and we came out ahead. We will leave Scotland with a 3-0 record.

After a nice morning off we were back on the bus for another long bus ride and our last tourist stop in SCOTLAND! We made a stop at Lombre Loch for a shopping break and a view at a national park. Then it was off to Stirling! Stirling Castle was amazing! It hasn't been touched by man, unlike the Edinburgh Castle. We hung out in the dungeon for a while and then it was off to take advantage of the beautiful view. From the inner wall you could see for what seemed like miles. There was a perfect view of the Stirling Bridge and the William Wallace Memorial. The Stirling Castle connects the highlands with the lowlands. We then went for a walk through the old cemetery when it started to rain and thunder and lightning, which meant back to the bus and off to our game! Hope you all are having fun in the states, the first half of our trip has been awesome and we'll see you on Sunday!
