CINCINNATI, Ohio--The University of Cincinnati men?s soccer team has moved the venue for its second exhibition match of the season, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 25, to Xavier University?s Soccer Complex. The contest with Wright State, originally slated to be held in UC?s Gettler Stadium, is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. Admission will be free to the contest.

The Bearcats will tune up for the match with Wright State and open the preseason this Saturday (Aug. 25) when they travel to the University of Dayton. Kick off from Baujan Field is set for 7:30 p.m.

?Our guys have been working real hard early in the preseason and we are very pleased with the effort,? said Bearcat head coach Hylton Dayes. ?The spirit and the attitude of the team has been good too. We have to replace alot of guys and the preseason will give us a chance to take a look at lots of different players. Dayton will be our first outside competition and they are good. We will use this opportunity to elevate ourselves and take a long, hard look at some of our new guys.?

The Bearcats are coming off a 10-4-6 campaign that saw them reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998 and win a share of the Conference USA Championship. UC returns 11 letterwinners from last season?s squad, but must replace a total of seven starters. Senior Wiremu Patrick (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington) is the top returning scorer for UC, having totaled four goals and three assists last season. Sophomore Sam Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) is the leader of the defense after being named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team last fall.

Dayton, by comparision has 18 letterwinners and seven starters returning from last season?s 12-5-2 squad. Seniors Chris Rolfe and Tye Stebbins pace the Flyer offensive attack, having each accumulated 13 points last season. The Flyers are coached by Dave Schureck, who has led Dayton to a 46-26-7 record in five seasons at the helm.

The Bearcats and Flyers last met on Sept. 1, 2002, with UC picking up a 2-1 home victory. In that match-up, UC jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals by Patrick and Tim Brown, before Dayton got to within a goal on a late second half score by Mpoki Tenende.

The UC men?s team will open the renovated and newly named Gettler Stadium on Wednesday, Sept 1. against IUPUI. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
