George Murray recorded 102 receiving yards in Friday's scrimmage.

At the least, the Bearcats proved that they could hang onto the football and generate offense in adverse weather conditions during Friday's intrasquad scrimmage.

Head coach Mark Dantonio found a lot of pluses when he put the University of Cincinnati through a controlled scrimmage, and in the end was pleased with the results.

"We moved the ball well, at least with our No. 1s, and we scored some points," stated Dantonio, in his first season at UC. "I thought our guys played hard on both sides of the ball and we played fast, which are two of our goals."

The coach was not concerned that the offense dominated the hour and 40 minute session, noting that several key defenders were held out of the scrimmage due to minor injuries.

Dantonio was quick to point out the team's lack of turnovers. A fumble and an interception, both made by the No. 3s, were the lone miscues of the afternoon.

Gino Guidugli looked sharp, completing 14 of 20 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He had TD tosses of two yards to tight end Brent Celek, 36 yards to Hannibal Thomas and 48 yards to George Murray. Murray was the top receiver with six catches for 102 yards.

Butler Benton and Mike Daniels scored via the run. Daniels, who is adjusting to his new position at running back, also threw a 38-yard TD pass to Derick Ross.

The Bearcats will have a pair of practices on Saturday and will practice on Sunday morning. The team will be treated to a trip to Kings Island on Sunday afternoon, where the players will spend some time signing autographs and posing for photos. Two-a-day practices resume on Monday.
