New UC pitching coach Joe Regruth

CINCINNATI, Ohio---The University of Cincinnati baseball staff has added a pair of new members with the hiring of pitching coach Joe Regruth and baseball operations/administrative assistant Leslie Ramsey.

The newcomers join a group headed by ninth-year head coach Brian Cleary and assistant coach in charge of recruiting Brad Meador. Regruth replaces Ty Neal, who resigned his position earlier this summer, while Ramsey fills a newly created position on the staff.

"We are very excited to get such a tremendously experienced pitching coach in Joe," Cleary stated. "I feel that he is a tremendous instructor and developer of pitchers and he has proved very capable of that in the past. I am excited about the direction and instruction that Joe will give our pitchers.

"Being able to add someone like Leslie really shows how the scope of our program has changed," Cleary continued. "I think Leslie will be a very valuable member of our team in all the different areas that she will direct."

Regruth brings a wealth of coaching experience and knowledge of the city to the Bearcats. He has spent the last eight seasons as the pitching coach at Xavier, after graduating from XU in 1989. At Xavier, Regruth not only worked directly with the Musketeers' hurlers, but he also spearheaded the recruiting efforts for the program. While at Xavier, Regruth developed six players who went on to play professionally. He also coached a Freshman All-American, an Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and an A-10 Pitcher of the Year.

Prior to coaching at his alma mater, Regruth served as the first baseball head coach at the College of Mount St. Joseph, helping the school move from the NAIA to NCAA Division III and doubling the program's win total in just three years. Following the 1996 season, Regruth was honored as the Association of Mideast Colleges Conference Coach of the Year for leading the program to the conference championship. One of Regruth's pitchers at the Mount also went on to play in the professional ranks.

Following his graduation from Xavier, Regruth completed his first tour on the Musketeer staff while earning a master's degree in education. In 1992, Regruth departed from Xavier and spent one season coaching in the Cincinnati St. Xavier High School program. From there, he moved on to Mount St. Joseph, in addition to coaching the pitchers for the prestigious Midland Braves summer team from 1991-96.

Ramsey comes to UC with extensive experience in coaching collegiate swimming. She has spent the past three years as the head coach and aquatics director at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. At Wittenberg, Ramsey coached nine NCAA All-Americans, while being honored as the 2002-03 NCAC Women's Coach of the Year. In addition to her coaching role, she was also responsible for the administration and management of the university's 22,500 square foot natatorium.

Before her stop at Wittenberg, Ramsey held the position of assistant swimming coach at the University of Kentucky from 1996-2001. While at UK, Ramsey was the squad's recruiting coordinator and also held fund-raising responsibilities.

A 1995 graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Ramsey was a five-time swimming All-American for the Tar Heels. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Exercise and Sports Sciences in 1995 and also earned a Masters of Science, Sports Administration in 1998 from UK.

At Cincinnati, Ramsey will handle a variety of responsibilities including assisting in the operation of the UC Baseball Stadium and planning the team's travel arrangements. She will also assist with the administration of the Diamond Club, baseball camps and clinics, as well as perform administrative tasks in the areas of recruiting, promoting ticket sales and budget mangament.
