Cross Country Plays Host to Queen City Invitational

UC, Marshall, Morehead State, Kentucky State will compete at Mt. Airy Forest

The University of Cincinnati cross country teams play host to the Queen City Invitational on Friday, Sept. 17 at Mt. Airy Forst in Cincinnati, Ohio. The event features runners from Cincinnati, Marshall University, Morehead State University, and Kentucky State University.

SCOUTING THE FIELD: The Marshall Thundering Herd competed in the Miami (Ohio) Invitational on Sept. 11. Two Herd men??s runners placed in the top 10. Senior Jason Pyles finished sixth at 26:25.68 and freshman Jonathan Nelson finished 10th at 27:03.91. For the women, freshman Emily Bailey posted a 21:00.14, good for 13th place. Both Marshall teams placed third out of three competing squads.

The Morehead State Eagles last competed in the four-team Chris Jones Memorial/Bellarmine Invitational on August 28. The men took home the team title with junior Josh Sheets finishing second in 29:05.5. The women finished second as a team while sophomore Sarah McClelland claimed second place with a time of 19:56.1.

FOLLOWING THE MEN: The UC men??s team won the team title at the Mel Brodt Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio on Sept. 11. The men placed seven athletes among the top 12 finishers and easily outdistanced second-place Dayton. Senior Eric Bair (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) was the top finisher, placing third for the Bearcats with a time of 25:38, just seven seconds back from first place.

FOLLOWING THE WOMEN: The women??s team finished third at the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 11 in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Bearcats were once again led by senior Ruth Limo (Mosoriot, Kenya/University of Toledo), who placed third at 17:46. Limo won the Flyer 5K, hosted by the University of Dayton on Sept. 4.

LAST YEAR??S QUEEN CITY: The Bearcat men won last year??s Queen City Invitational, finishing ahead of Morehead State and Northern Kentucky. Eric Bair won the individual title in 26:07.34. The women placed third in the six-team field, behind Eastern Kentucky and Miami (Ohio). Jennifer Limle was the top finisher for the women, placing 10th in 19:04.07.

COMING UP: After a weekend off, UC travels to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 1.
